Squidoo: Swarovski Crystal Beads

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

The Swarovski Company was founded in the late 19th Century when Daniel Swarovski invented an automatic cutting machine for crystal, and in 1895 established a crystal cutting factory in Austria. The birthplace of the factory was Wattens, which was chosen because local hydroelectricity made the energy-intensive process involved more cost-effective. …

Scroll saws are referred to by size. The size is the distance from the blade, to the frame of the saw. It determines how large of a workpiece can Swarvski Crystal Jewelry cut with the saw.

The range in price from about a Antique Photo Album Teal dollars, to a close to two thousand dollars. A pretty large price differential. The more costly ones are generally much more accurate and easier to use, as the vibration in the machine is minimal. That doesn’t mean you have to buy an expensive machine to enjoy this tool, but try to use a machine prior to buying it.

I’ve read good reviews on the Dewalt scroll saw, but haven’t personally used one for more the a couple minutes. My own personal machine is a Hawk G4.

The learning curve is relatively small, provided you start with basic projects, and work your way up to advanced ones. Don’t start out trying to make a four foot high replica of a cathedral. This will lead to frustration, for sure. Patience is virtue, as they say.

Scroll sawing is a Eye Of Horus popular hobby for many woodworkers. While there are many reasons for this, a few of the mains one are pretty easy to understand why.

One of the biggies on this list would have to be the creativity this tool enables. There are so many scroll saw plans and projects to choose from, a person could go a lifetime, and never make it through all the Swarovski Crafts plans.

A second reason is the small amount of space required to use one. If you had an understanding spouse, you could actually use it on you kitchen table!

There are many projects that require little more that the saw itself, eliminating a huge investment in tools. These saws are almost a self contained shop, for some projects.

Our main purpose for using a scroll saw is the ability to cut intricate curves and joints, very quickly, and with great accuracy. We use ours to cut dovetail joints quickly.

We also find there is no better tool for cutting intarsia and inlays for our veneer projects. The ability to stack cut veneers is a great resource in creating complicated, but beautiful pictures within our veneer work. Using a very fine blade, the saw Crystal Company Ltd is all but invisible. By stacking different variates of veneer, we can get perfect fitting pieces, in woods of different colors, and create very detailed pictures.

Another would be the fact that other members of the family, including children, with adult supervision, can enjoy creating crafts, and realizing the pride generated by making something.

In summary, these are great tools, that can be enjoyed by the entire family, while at the same time offering a machine with great precision and capabilities.

New Life

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

A brilliant powerful bright light emerges - so it seems - from nowhere, then grew and expanded in a flash of time, to eventually create the physical universe as we know it and life itself as a whole. The process then begin to reverse and the original light, which created life and everything physical in the first place, will end it in the same manner the way started it originally, thus completing a major cycle. A minute sparks of light originate from the above main light, do repeat similar cycles, but on a micro-scale in comparison with the above cycle, simply to create and sustain individual physical life cycles, everywhere.

* * * * *

A bright light burst in a dream

Carve a shape

In a total darkness

Creating fire far and near

* * * * *

A spark from the light suddenly trapped

In grey cubic strange place

“Dissolve” slowly then appear

In a large blue empty sphere

Attached within

A yellow green dense realm

* * * * *

The lost spark has no control

When a planet physical force

“Imprison” within “with full control”

Embedding itself in the virgin matter

Giving life to physical forms

* * * * *

The old spirit sparks fire

In the emerging

New soul

Starting life in a fresh form

A thirst for life with physical role

Striving to fulfil lingering desires

Beyond control

Repeating again

The cycle of birth*

The cycle of death

Once more

* * * * *

Altawell

16 March 2008

*The cycle of birth and death repeat itself for a very long period (if we measure it in our physical time) until the time “arrive” when we realise what is going on i.e. being conscious within and without, at the same time.

Discount Web Shopping Site

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

You were going to head to Wal-Mart, but on second thought, maybe you can find that same item a little bit cheaper online? I think that’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves at one time or another. But, where can we find a good discount web shopping site?

Here we’ll explore some different ways to find discounts online.

Massive Online Searching

Many consumers will simply spend hours upon hours searching through search engine results for the best possible deal. And, these consumers will probably save a good 5-15% on their purchase by making these painstaking efforts. But, doesn’t it seem like there should be a better way? You would think that with the elimination of the middle man, many of these websites are saving a lot of money that they could easily pass on to their customers.

Coupon Codes

One way that some consumers have found to save another 5-10% during their shopping experience is through the use of coupon codes. Coupon codes are offered by retailers often through mass mailings to their preferred customer lists. This method of communication often backfires for the retailer, as the customers will then share this code with others for use while shopping online.

You can often find these coupon codes by typing in the phrase ‘coupon code’ in your favorite search engine along with the name of the item or retailer you’re looking for.

Refer-A-Friend Discount Web Shopping

Another means of finding a nice discount on an item is through referring others to your shopping sites and consequently, collecting rebates on your own purchases. There are a few companies who are built around this principle because they understand the power of networking and the nature of humans to want to help one another.

A few months ago, I referred my Aunt to my personal shopping site and she purchased a new television from Best Buy. When she made that purchase, I immediately received a check for $200! You can’t beat that for a discount!

If you’re wondering where to get discounts of 40-70%, and receive HUGE rebates for referring your friends and family to shop, check out the: Discount Web Shopping Site

New Coaches Introductory Call - Getting to Yes Part 2 - To Coach or Not to Coach in that First Call

Monday, August 18th, 2008

When it comes to signing up a new client, most coaches find that the prospect expects some sort of consultation or complimentary session before they sign up and pay for a set of coaching sessions with you. In my experience there are different approaches coaches take to this call, each with its own merits. Let me share the three main options with you here.

A Free Coaching Session

Some coaches do offer a full coaching session at no charge. There are a couple of risks here. You donate 45 - 60 minutes of your precious time and give away a session so valuable to the prospective client that they decide their problems are sorted and they don’t need you beyond that first call.

A second risk is that a potential ‘client’ registers for such a call without much forethought. They are window-shopping with no real intention of committing to a series of coaching sessions unless you bowl them over with some special deal or other offer.

In my experience this is a small minority of people but when the free-loader completes the call saying they will “go away and have a think” (just as soon as they’ve had a complimentary session with another three coaches) you are left feeling disheartened and worse, taken for a ride.

A Paid-For Full Length Coaching Session

A second option is therefore to run a full-length first session that your potential client pays for, perhaps a little lower than your regular rate. For experienced coaches confident of their skills and success rate with clients, this can mean a win-win. You charge for the session but agree to deduct the cost of it from the first month’s fee, should they decide to go ahead.

You know their intention is serious, they get some good laser coaching and experience your style of coaching. Your time is given a value and if they decide to work with you, you are happy to have given them some time gratis.

The downside is it may deter some genuine people because the risk is all on their side. What if they decide they don’t want to work with you because there’s no rapport or you don’t understand them? They are out of pocket and they still don’t have a coach.

A Short Complimentary Consultation

So let’s just consider what this first session is really all about. Your potential client has reached a point where they know they could benefit from some support with an issue that’s been troubling them or a goal they’ve been talking about forever. Chances are they already know something — however basic — about the coaching process.

What they now want is to be able to decide whether they could easily like and trust you. A short free phone consultation ticks all the boxes. You get the opportunity to:

  • Create rapport
  • Discover the client’s issue(s)
  • Coach them to identify, even approximately, what their goal(s) would be
  • Help them get in touch with how they will feel when they achieve these
  • Assess your mutual suitability as coach and client
  • Answer their questions and explain the practicalities of coaching
  • Make it easy for them to buy — Sign up a new client!
  • For a simple ten step guide to running a short complimentary consultation with a high success rate, see the third and final part of this series of articles.

    Snowboards For Beginners

    Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Snowboards for beginners can cost top dollar, but they don’t have to. In fact they probably shouldn’t. It is easy to think that the best beginner snowboard should be one of the more expensive boards. The logic behind that theory is that the more it cost the better the quality, the better the quality the easier it will be to snowboard. However, for snowboarding that theory doesn’t work, at least not for beginners snowboards.

It is true that as the price of snowboards go up so does the quality of the material used in making snowboards. The quality of a snowboard though is not a big of issue for a beginner as it is for a more advanced rider. One good reason to buy the lower to mid ranged priced snowboards is that you might not like snowboarding and why invest a lot of money on a snowboard if you aren’t really sure that your going to be into the sport. A second and even better reason why to buy the lower to mid ranged snowboards is that they are usually softer. By softer, they are more flexible. A common theme among all snowboards for beginners is that they are flexible because it is easier to learn how to turn on a softer more flexible board.

Entry level snowboards cost from $150-$250 and mid-ranged snowboards cost from $250-$450. If you are shopping at a local snowboard store ask the shop crew to show you the more flexible or softer snowboards. You can test how flexible they are by setting the tail on the ground and grabbing the tip and push it down. If the board starts to flex without putting too much muscle into it than it is considered a soft board. But if you really have to put a lot of weight into it than it is probably a little too stiff for what you want.

If you are shopping at an online snowboarding store check the board review or product description. Usually they will say something about the flex of the board. Or they might have a rating’s system where they rate the torsional(side to side) flex and the longitudinal(tip to tail) flex. The higher the number the more flexible it is.

The bottom line is that the best beginner snowboard is one that is easier to turn. The first and most basic aspect of snowboarding is turning, but for someone just starting out it can be difficult. Buy snowboards that are softer and they will make learning to turn easier. And the good thing is is that most entry level to mid-ranged priced snowboards have a softer flex, so you wont have to break the bank to get a snowboard. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Check out the Online Snowboarding Store, if your looking for some new snowboarding gear.

    CNN.com Recently Published/Updated

    Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

CNN.com delivers up-to-the-minute news and information on the latest top stories, weather, entertainment, politics and more.

One of the hardest things about moving to another area is getting acquainted with where local stores are, where to get groceries, where the police station is, the local library, cafes, etc. You could put together an information pack for those students attending universities and colleges in your area. Often times these students move to the area from far away places and welcome the information pack that you put together for them.

What can you include in this informative and useful packet? Sell an information pack designed exclusively for a college student that contains a guidebook, a local map, bus schedules, coupons, and discounts they can use. Include any thing that you can think of that would help them get comfortable to your area. Don’t forget you will want to include restaurants, health foods, deli’s, sandwich shops, pizza parlors, coffee shops, and Chinese food. These are all very popular dining establishments for college students.

Local businesses will gladly work with you on this- they know that offering a coupon or discount, will usually give them new regular customers. See if you can get the businesses to offer a regular student discount, this will really appeal to students on a fixed income. If you can include these in your packet, you will be able to show them how it will pay for itself in just a few purchases, by using the coupons and discounts.

Remember that college students do not typically have a lot of extra money so you will need to make sure they know they will save lots of money if they invest in your info pack. Keep the cost low, you could sell them for $5 - $10 per pack. Assure them that they will get their money back quickly when they start using the discounts and coupons.

Check with the college and see if you can set up a table to sell these helpful information and coupon packets when new students are arriving on campus. This would typically be just a few times a year. Make sure that you include information on how they can contact you, to order more. They will have friends that will want your packet too and make sure that they invest in a new one at least once a year. Accomplish this by making the coupons expire after so long and any student discount cards that you may include should have an expiration date also.

You may want to check with all of the local bookstores also, and see if they will carry the info packs for students to buy. You may have to share some of your profits with them, but it will be worth it. Leave brochures in some of the businesses that accept coupons too, this can be an added source of advertising for you.
